Below you will find the latest letter from our Headteacher. Previous newsletters from the school year can also be found here.
Dear Parents,
As the summer term is well underway, I thought I would take the opportunity to update you on some activities at SJS over the next few weeks.
Walk to School Week:
I'm pleased to say that, as in previous years, we will be participating in the National Walk to School Week between the 20th and 24th May. In support of our ?Walk Once a Week? initiative, we are keen to encourage as many children as possible to take part and would ask that wherever possible, you support us in promoting this initiative. Even if only on selected days, it all helps to make a difference. Children who take part will each receive a certificate from their classteacher at the end of the week.
Fun Run:
You should have received details of this year's Fun Run which will take place on Saturday 18th May. I would be grateful if you could return the reply slip to the school office by Monday 13th May, in order to give us an idea of the number of people taking part. I hope that once again, we can call on your support for this very worthwhile venture. This year, we are aiming to use the money raised to provide additional funding towards the last phase of the children?s adventure play facilities. Please contact the admin team if you would like further information about this event.
East Dene:
Many congratulations to the staff and children in Year 5 for their highly successful visit to East Dene last week. I know that the staff at East Dene were really impressed with the attitude, manners and behaviour of our pupils and the way in which they participated in the many activities on offer. Again, my thanks to all involved, and particularly those parents who gave up their week to accompany the children; their help was much appreciated.
Governor Update:
Mr Vic Bass, our current Chair of Governors, has reached the end of his term of office as a parent governor at Sarisbury. Mr Bass has indicated that he would be keen to stand again and therefore, I am asking that any other parents wishing to register their interest as a parent governor contact the school as soon as possible in order to organise an election. If we have not heard from parents by Friday 17th May, I will assume that parents are happy for Mr Bass to continue in his current role.
Staffing Update - Class 5C:
I am writing to inform parents of children in Year 5 that Mrs Chisnell will be taking her maternity leave after half term. In order to cover class 5C, Miss Harrington will be taking the class and Mrs Smith will join our part time teaching team in providing planning and preparation time for class teachers. Mr Richards will assume responsibility for the planning and organisation in Year 5 as acting Year Leader for the remainder of the summer term. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Mrs Chisnell for her excellent contribution to life at Sarisbury and send her and her husband our very best wishes for the arrival of their first child.
Milk Bottle Top Collection:
Following requests from parents, we have now arranged for a company to begin the collection and recycling of milk bottle tops at the school. A bin will be placed in our reception for parents to place washed milk bottle tops.
Adventure Playground Supervision:
We have a warm and caring sense of community at SJS and I am more than happy for parents to access the adventure playground with their children at the end of the school day. However, it is important that all children are supervised by their parents when using the play facility; children will not be permitted to use this equipment unless supervised. Your cooperation is much appreciated.
Will parents also note that the school is closed on Monday 3rd June for staff training. The children will return after half term on Tuesday 4th June.
Yours sincerely,
A. J. Stockton
