Congratulations to our Football teams who have both won through to the 'Champions League' Finals this season. The Champions League is a round robin competition for the top four schools in the Fareham and Gosport League. This is the third season in a row that Sarisbury have reached this stage and we wish them well in their pursuit of the league title this year.
Our Upper School Netball Team has also had a very successful season and with only a few matches to play, also look to qualify for the 'Champions League' this year.
Despite the poor weather, our Cross Country Teams have shown an excellent attitude and with a squad of over 35 runners regularly taking part at Portsdown this year, Sarisbury are well placed in both the boys' and girls' league. Two races remain this season and we wish our runners all the very best.
We have a squad of 12 pupils taking part for the first time in the Hampshire Schools Swimming Championships on Friday 7th March. We wish Mrs Hamblin and our swimming team the very best of luck.
My thanks and congratulations go to all of the staff involved in running our sports events and to parents of course for your continued support.
We are holding two parents' evenings to review your child's progress on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th March between 4:00pm and 7:30pm. A reply slip is coming home with your child to return to school by Friday 7th March. If you have more than one child at the school, we will do our best to arrange appointments so that they follow one another. If the times stated are not convenient please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher. Governors and I will be available throughout the evening should you have queries or concerns.
As with the autumn term meetings, we are asking that your child be present for all / part of the interview as teachers will be reviewing your child's targets during the consultation meetings; a copy of new 'steps to success' will also be provided for you to discuss with your child.
The learning reviews will cover the following areas:
How your child feels they are progressing this term including the progress towards their targets and any notable achievements
How 'active' they are in the classroom and the level to which they contribute to class discussions and group work
A reflection on the quality of their work, their presentation, organisation and sense of pride
Their relationships with other children and their confidence when participating in more collaborative learning
We very much value your views, suggestions and feedback about the quality of provision at Sarisbury and in order to help us improve our school further, I would welcome your opinions about your child's learning at SJS. We will be sending this year's questionnaire for parents home next week and I would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete this and then return it either to the school office or at the parents' evenings on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th March. I appreciate that it takes time to complete but the higher the response we have, the more informed we are about the views of our parents and therefore the areas of strength and development for our school. We have included a section on the questionnaire this year which relates specifically to SJS as a Church school and would welcome your views on this aspect of the school's work also.
Please put the 25th April in your diaries when our PFA will be holding their annual quiz night.
World Book Day:
You should have received a copy of the events planned at Sarisbury for World Book Day on Thursday 6th March. If you are able to help with the guided reading session at 9am, we would be delighted to hear from you; please contact the admin team.
Footpath between Sarisbury Infants and Junior School:
I understand that a new foot and cycle path is being constructed between the two Sarisbury Schools and that this is due to be completed next week. It should provide much better access for those parents and pupils who wish to walk to school and therefore, I am keen to promote this new facility as much as possible.
