French & Spanish at Sarisbury

Working and learning together

At Sarisbury all children have the opportunity to learn French and Spanish. French is taught in Years 3 and 4 with Spanish taught in Years 5 and 5.

We believe that learning a new language supports children’s learning in all areas of literacy and helps develop key speaking and listening skills. In learning French and Spanish, children will also acquire a better knowledge of the country, its culture, as well as learn a wide range of vocabulary and phrases needed to hold simple conversations. Our weekly French and Spanish learning is cross curricular and aims to teach children to read, write and speak French and Spanish through a variety of songs, games, drama and other activities.
